Sierra recommends a 6.5” twist barrel for the #9290 22 cal 90 gr HPBT bullet however for cartridges like the Valkyrie, that can push them over 2650 fps muzzle velocity, a 7” twist barrel will stabilize the bullet correctly.

Well I’m glad I ordered a 6.5 inch twist Bartlein barrel for my bolt gun to shoot 90gr at 2900fps. Now what do I do? Will I be shredding bullets?

No if you tried shooting 55gr at high velocity then you might run into issues.

I’m gonna stick with the heavier bullets if it works out. 75gr and above.

When will we see and be able to purchase heavier Varmint bullets 65 to 85 grain (explosive) in .224 caliber. I have the 224 Valkyrie 1 in 7″ twist barrel for Prairie Dogs. I shot over 400 rounds in June in SD, most of the heavier bullets were target HP’s (not much fun). Thanks for all the info.

You would think Sierra would be out in front of this and making new match grade varmint bullets for the 224Val. Same for Berger.
